Today, I celebrate the life and legacy of the late H.E. Amb. Dr. Lee Barbara Babatunde Bamidele Iyobosa Egiebor is a distinguished son of Nigeria. I learned through a WhatsApp message that he passed away on December 7th, 2024. His passing is a profound loss, not only to his family and loved ones but also to the global Nigerian Diaspora, especially to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Amb. Dr. Lee Barbara Babatunde Bamidele Iyobosa Egiebor was a man of remarkable character – decent, detribalized, and deeply patriotic. He embodied peace and wisdom, holding steadfast to his belief in the boundless potential of Nigeria and its people. He envisioned a nation transformed by the active contributions of its Diaspora, a dream he tirelessly championed with unwavering optimism.
My encounter with him during my tenure as Chairman of NIDO Europe, while he was Chair Emeritus of NIDO Africa, left an indelible mark on me. His passion for Nigeria’s progress and unity was contagious. He firmly believed that the Nigerian Diaspora held the key to unlocking the nation’s greatness, and his faith in this mission was unshakable. It is no wonder that he continued his quest for a better Nigeria, inspiring all who crossed his path with his clarity of purpose, calm demeanor, and genuine love for his country.
Amb. Dr. Lee Barbara Babatunde Bamidele Iyobosa Egiebor’s passing leaves a void deeply felt by the Diaspora community, his family, and all who knew him. To his family, we extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers, asking the Almighty to grant them the grace and strength to bear this great loss.
As we mourn his departure, let us also celebrate the values he stood for and the vision he pursued. The best way to honor his memory is to continue the work he began – dedicating ourselves to making Nigeria a better place. Let us carry forward his legacy of peace, wisdom, and unwavering patriotism, striving together to build the Nigeria of our dreams.
May his soul rest in perfect peace, embraced in the bosom of the Lord. Rest well, Ambassador Egiebor. Your life was a light that will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those you touched.
