A Birthday Tribute to Pa Chief Bukazi Etete
As this new day breaks, my heart turns with gratitude to God for the gift of your life and for the privilege of knowing you. Today is more than a birthday; it is an opportunity to celebrate a compassionate elder, a respected statesman, an intellectual mentor, and a visionary leader whose life continues to embody service, wisdom, courage, and devotion to the Ijaw people.
Since I was first privileged to be introduced to you, my understanding of the Ijaw cause and of the responsibilities involved in advancing the Ijaw Agenda has been enriched in ways I deeply value. Your counsel carries the authority of experience, but what makes it especially meaningful to me is the fatherly spirit in which you offer it. You have challenged my thinking, corrected me when necessary, encouraged me when I needed it, and reminded me that leadership is fundamentally about serving people and preserving values greater than ourselves.
Your generation carries a wealth of experience that cannot be replaced. You are, in many respects, a bridge between generations and a living repository of memories, lessons, struggles, sacrifices, and hopes that must be passed on to those coming behind. That is why your voice matters, your counsel matters, and your continued presence among us is a blessing.
As you celebrate another year today, may you know that the younger generation is listening, learning, and drawing strength from the example of elders who remain committed to the well-being of our people. May the years ahead bring you greater peace and fulfilment, and may your legacy of wisdom, service, and devotion continue to inspire generations yet unborn.
May you live long and well, and continue to enjoy the respect, affection, and honour your life and service have earned.
Happy Birthday, Pa Chief Bukazi Etete!
