The leadership and members of the ADC Diasporan Network Global convened a strategic meeting on 25 April 2026 to deliberate on recent developments concerning the reviewed ADC Constitution, particularly the omission, distortion, and attempted reduction of the ADC-DN structure under the guise of constitutional amendment.
The meeting noted with serious concern that the reviewed constitutional provision did not properly reflect the established ADC-DN structure, its historical role, its global organizational framework, or its long-standing contribution to the growth and democratic identity of the African Democratic Congress.
Members unanimously rejected any attempt to mutilate the ADC Constitution by distorting ADC-DN into an ambiguous and weakened arrangement. The meeting affirmed that ADC-DN is not a casual or temporary platform, but a legitimate global structure built through years of sacrifice, mobilization, political engagement, and commitment to democratic development in Nigeria.
The meeting further observed that any constitutional review affecting ADC-DN must follow due process, broad consultation, democratic inclusion, and institutional fairness. The attempt to diminish Diaspora participation, without proper engagement with the recognized leadership and stakeholders of ADC-DN, was viewed as unacceptable and inconsistent with the democratic values upon which the ADC was founded.
After extensive deliberations, the meeting unanimously resolved that ADC-DN shall maintain its existing global structure and continue to function as a strategic Diaspora political bloc within the ADC family. Members agreed that no distorted provision or unclear amendment can erase the legitimacy, history, and organizational strength of ADC-DN.
The meeting also resolved to continue the ongoing internal conversations and consultations as earlier planned, while engaging critical stakeholders within and outside the party. These engagements shall include ranking party leaders, Diaspora bodies, democratic institutions, legal advisers, Continental Chairs, chapter leaders, BOT members, and all relevant democratic actors committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
ADC-DN reaffirmed its commitment to calm, disciplined, and strategic engagement. The meeting emphasized that while members are deeply concerned by the constitutional distortion, the Network shall pursue its position through lawful, democratic, and constructive channels.
The meeting further resolved to strengthen its media structure, online presence, membership mobilization, and internal communication systems. All public communication shall be coordinated through the appropriate ADC-DN media organs to ensure clarity, unity of purpose, and responsible messaging.
ADC-DN also reaffirmed its readiness to engage all democratic bodies and institutions committed to the democratic development of Nigeria. As a global Diaspora platform, ADC-DN remains committed to promoting democratic participation, inclusive governance, institutional accountability, and the meaningful involvement of Nigerians in the Diaspora in national development.
The meeting therefore calls on the National Leadership of the ADC to urgently address the concerns raised by ADC-DN, restore clarity, respect due process, and recognize the legitimate global structure of the ADC Diasporan Network. The party must not weaken one of its most strategic democratic assets at a time Nigeria needs broader inclusion, credible participation, and global political engagement.
ADC-DN remains united, resolute, and committed to democratic principles. We shall continue to build our numbers, strengthen our structures, engage stakeholders, and defend the integrity of Diaspora participation within the ADC and Nigeria’s democratic space.
Issued this 25th day of April 2026.
