As part of activities marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, the Akwukwu Igbo Students Association (ASA) successfully organized an Academic Support Program aimed at encouraging academic excellence, leadership, and educational development among secondary school students in Akwukwu Igbo.
The event, which was held in a vibrant and intellectually engaging atmosphere, brought together student prefects and representatives from various secondary schools across Akwukwu Igbo. The program served as a platform for interaction, mentorship, and discussions centered on academic goals, leadership responsibilities, discipline, and the importance of education in nation building.
Speaking during the event, the President of the Association, Ambassador Comrade Stanley Ogbolu, encouraged the students to remain focused on their studies and strive for excellence in all areas of life. He emphasized the need for young people to embrace education as a tool for personal and community development.
Amb. Comr. Stanley Ogbolu further announced an upcoming scholarship program for outstanding students, noting that the scholarship exercise would be strictly merit-based to encourage hard work, dedication, and academic competitiveness among students.
According to him, the Association has consistently worked towards supporting students through educational opportunities and partnerships with notable individuals and philanthropists within the community. He highlighted some of the achievements already recorded by the Association in facilitating scholarships for deserving students.
He specifically acknowledged the contributions of Hon. Dr. Kenneth Gbandi, who recently added 20 students from the Akwukwu Igbo Students Association to the Kenneth Gbandi Foundation Scholarship Scheme. He described the gesture as a significant contribution towards improving access to education for indigent students in the community.
The ASA President also appreciated Barr. Chief Mrs. Gift Iwegbu for her educational support to students of the community. He revealed that she awarded scholarships to nine students of ASA, representing the nine quarters of Akwukwu Igbo. The beneficiaries, according to him, expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity and pledged to remain committed to their academic pursuits.
The program also featured interactive discussions where students shared ideas on leadership, moral values, examination success strategies, and ways of improving academic performance in their respective schools. Participants described the initiative as timely and impactful, while calling for more educational and mentorship programs for young people in the community.
Members of the Association’s Executive present at the event included the Secretary of the Association, Comrade Chukwuebuka Mishael Nwadiokwuashi (MCN), and the Consultant to the Association, Mr. Lawrence Amromanoh, alongside other members and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the event.
The event concluded on a joyful and inspiring note with prayers, words of appreciation, and a vote of thanks delivered by the Head Prefect of Madonna Comprehensive High School on behalf of all the participating students. The students commended the Akwukwu Igbo Students Association for its continued commitment towards promoting academic excellence and youth development within the community.
