- Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu Praised for Infrastructure that Unites and Uplifts
The Igbo community in Lagos State has expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the commissioning of the new rail station along the Festac–Mile 2 corridor. This critical infrastructure has brought immense relief to Ndigbo residents and business owners in the area by reducing travel time, lowering transport costs, and improving access to key commercial hubs.
Speaking ahead of the upcoming Igbo Heritage Day Celebration 2025, Apostle Patrick A. Nwanze (Agu Anioma), Chairman of the Celebration and President-General of the Apex Association of Anioma Indigenes Inc., an affiliate of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide commended the state government’s dedication to inclusive development.
“This rail station is not just a transportation hub; it is a symbol of progress. It shows that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration is committed to enhancing the lives of all residents, especially in areas densely populated by the Igbo community,” Apostle Nwanze said.
He also emphasized that the forthcoming Igbo Heritage Day Celebration will further strengthen cultural ties and economic cooperation between the Igbo and their host communities. According to him, the event will promote mutual understanding and showcase not only Igbo culture and traditions but also enrich the multicultural tapestry of Lagos State. “This celebration will foster unity and peaceful co-existence between Ndigbo and the Yoruba people. It is a shared opportunity for cultural exchange, respect, and growth,” he added.
Chief Emma Emeka Anyagwa, Secretary of the Organizing Committee, echoed these sentiments. He noted that the rail infrastructure has significantly eased mobility, reduced traffic congestion, and contributed to Lagos’ economic development. “As the rail system connects major urban centers, its long-term impact on Nigeria’s economy and quality of life cannot be overstated. It represents sustainable progress,” Chief Anyagwa remarked.
High Chief Sunday Ossai, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State Chapter, also lauded the state government for fostering a harmonious relationship between the Igbo community and indigenous Lagosians. He described the Igbo Day celebration as a platform to promote peace, love, and unity among all ethnic groups in the state.
“We encourage the Lagos State Government to continue creating a level playing field where all residents regardless of origin can thrive through entrepreneurship, cultural promotion, and community development,” High Chief Ossai said.
The Igbo Heritage Day Celebration 2025 is not only a cultural showcase but also a platform for economic empowerment and global recognition of Igbo heritage. With expected participation from dignitaries across both the Igbo and Yoruba communities, the event will also feature the presentation of community development awards to distinguished leaders from both ethnic groups. The celebration aligns with broader cultural initiatives like the Ndi-Igbo Worldwide Cultural Carnival 2025, reflecting a unified vision to preserve and promote Igbo identity, language, and tradition while building bridges of cooperation with host communities.
