„there should be no room for tribal bigotry or threats of violence in Nigeria or the Diaspora. Individuals or groups who incite violence, regardless of their motives, tribe, religion, or political affiliations, should be met with the same condemnation and legal consequences as Amaka Patience Sunnberger“
In a recent statement, Hon. Dr. Kenneth Chibuogwu Gbandi, the longest-serving European Diaspora leader and the current Deputy National Chairman (Diaspora Engagement) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has strongly condemned a trending video made by a Nigerian living in Canada that advocates for the poisoning of food and water supplies of fellow Nigerians. The video, credited to one Amaka Patience Sunnberger, contains despicable and inflammatory statements directed against Edo and Yoruba brethren. Dr. Gbandi emphasized that such incitements to violence are reprehensible, un-Nigerian, un-Diaspora and have no place in any civilized society, whether at home or in the Diaspora.
Dr. Gbandi’s condemnation reflects the unified response from the Nigerian Diaspora, who have swiftly denounced Sunnberger’s dangerous rhetoric. He noted that this collective outcry across tribes and tongues is a testament to the shared desire among Nigerians for a country characterized by peace, prosperity, and justice. He highlighted that the Nigerian spirit, whether within the country or abroad, does not condone such hatred or violence against one another no matter our differences.
Further, Dr. Gbandi called for immediate investigation and appropriate legal action taken against the individual and in same vain called for the same energy both from the Government and Diaspora in holding any Diaspora, political elites accountable, particularly those who use tribal utterances to sow divisions and to disrupt national harmony, as seen during the pre and post 2023 elections in Nigeria. He stressed that there should be no room for tribal bigotry or threats of violence in Nigeria or the Diaspora. Dr. Gbandi urged that individuals who incite violence, regardless of their motives, tribe, religion, or political affiliation, should be met with the same condemnation and legal consequences as Amaka Patience Sunnberger.
Dr. Gbandi reiterated that unity and justice are the cornerstones of Nigeria’s future, and that Nigerians, both at home and abroad, must stand together against any forces that threaten their collective peace and security.
