The Award committee have the pleasure to announce that His Excellency, Baba M. Madugu, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein will be conferred with Global (Nigerian Diaspora) Icon of Peace in Frankfurt, Germany.

In an earlier weakened press telegraph made available to Heritage Media Global office in Hamburg Germany, today 22nd July 2023, the Award committee made public the following:

The Award committee have followed your excellent records as Nigerian Head of Mission in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Your disposition to peacefully resolutions of many issues confronting Nigerians and Nigerian organizations in Switzerland, your simplification of bureaucratic processes specially to making life easier for Nigerians in Switzerland and Liechtenstein among others is legendary and won the hearts of the majority of the Award Committee members.

Your cordial relationships with the Nigerian community, especially Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Europe (NIDO), historically the largest African Diaspora professional networking of the world, backed by an act of parliament in Nigeria (NIDCOM Act) is legendary, worthy of emulation and celebrating.

The African Diaspora Living Legend Award Committee have therefore the privilege and pleasure to nominate you as a recipient of the 2023 Award as Global (Nigerian Diaspora) Icon of Peace and Diplomacy. The Award ceremony will be taking place on the 5th of August 2023 at NH Airport Hotel West Frankfurt Germany

This year’s Award will be the major highlight of the Deutsch – Africa Business Day 2023 which is about creating an agricultural ecosystem for African and German agricultural enthusiasts, financial institutions that incorporates Diaspora, young farmers, smallholder farmers, academics, entrepreneurs, supply chain managers to build partnerships that contribute to current developments in agribusiness and improve food security and sustainability in Nigeria/Africa.

Ambassador Baba M. Madugu assumed duties as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein on 13th October 2017. Until his appointment as Nigeria’s envoy, he was a retired and accomplished Civil Servant who rose to the peak of his career to become the Permanent Secretary of the Ministries of Information, Culture and Tourism as well as Higher Education of Bauchi State from February 2008 – October 2009.  Following his retirement from public service, he joined politics and was actively involved in the organization of State Congresses, Primaries and Bye-Elections of the All-Progressive Congress (APC). 

In the course of his political career, he has served in different capacities which include Member of the Bauchi State Executive Council and Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism as well as Religious Affairs; 1st State Secretary for the Merger of Political Parties that produced the All Progressives Congress (APC); Secretary of the Gombe State Congress Committee; Member of the Contract and Mobilization Directorate of the APC Presidential Council and Supervisor of the 2011 Adamawa and Taraba States Gubernatorial Primaries amongst others.

Ambassador Baba M. Madugu is holds a master’s degree in business administration from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. He also possesses a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from the same institution. Having served the government meritoriously as an accomplished civil servant, at the State Level, as well as an astute politician and administrator par excellence, he was appointed by His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as Ambassador in 2017. Following his remarkable achievement in strengthening political and socio-economic ties with the Governments of Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein, he was re-appointed as Ambassador in 2020.
