Diaspora Stakeholders Chart a New Course for Nigeria. In commemoration of Nigeria’s Democracy Day, African Heritage Media presents exclusively the official communiqué from the ADC Worldwide Convergence of Diaspora Coalition Partners & Stakeholders, held virtually on June 9, 2025.
This landmark gathering, convened by the African Democratic Congress Diaspora Network (ADC-DN) in support of its coalition partners, including the Nigeria Diaspora Coalition for Change (NDCfC) brought together visionary Nigerian diaspora leaders, political stakeholders, and change agents from across the globe.
Timed to coincide with this important national day, the communiqué reflects the growing resolve of the Nigerian diaspora to not only influence the democratic process through remittances and advocacy but to take an active role in shaping the nation’s governance, economy, and global image.
Key resolutions included calls for diaspora political inclusion, constitutional reforms, electronic voting rights, and the immediate activation of the NiDCOM board. With a roadmap toward 2027 and a global mobilization strategy, the convergence marks a significant shift from diaspora engagement to diaspora empowerment.
As Nigeria reflects on its democratic journey, this communiqué underscores a powerful message: the future of Nigerian democracy must be globally inclusive, accountable, and led by integrity-driven coalitions.

COMMUNIQUÉ: ADC WORLDWIDE CONVERGENCE OF DIASPORA COALITION PARTNERS & STAKEHOLDERS

Preamble:
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), in partnership with key diaspora organizations including the Nigeria Diaspora Coalition for Change (NDCfC), convened a historic global convergence of Nigerian diaspora leaders, thought partners, and change makers. The meeting brought together participants from across Africa, Europe, and the Americas to deliberate on Nigeria’s future and the urgent role of the diaspora in transforming the nation’s governance architecture.
Key Resolutions and Action Points:
- Diaspora Recognition & Political Inclusion:
The diaspora remains a vital constituency, contributing over $65 billion in recent remittances and representingNigeria’s most educated global demographic. Participants reaffirmed support for ADC’s recognition of the diaspora as Nigeria’s 7th geopolitical zone and called for replication by other political parties. - Constitution of the Diaspora Commission Board: A strong appeal was made to the Federal Government to immediately constitute the Board of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in line with statutory provisions, with inclusion of diaspora leaders, private sector representatives, and subject-matter experts.
- Diaspora Voting & Electoral Integrity:
The coalition demanded a framework that guarantees diaspora voting rights with enforceable timelines for implementation of electronic voting systems, and mechanisms to ensure that INEC is accountable and transparent. - Economic Engagement & Investment Facilitation:
The coalition resolved to:
Establish a Diaspora Investment Portal, backed by Nigerian banks with dedicated diaspora desks.
Launch Diaspora Business Summits in key cities to connect global Nigerian entrepreneurs with local investment opportunities. - Constitutional & Legal Reforms:
Urgent calls were made for:
Finalizing the Coalition Contract with Nigerians, integrating diaspora input.
Enabling dual citizenship recognition for second-generation Nigerians born abroad. - Global Mobilization Strategy:
Americas Team (Dr. Peter Mozie): Mobilizecoalition supporters across North and South America.
Europe Team (Engr. Richard Akpi): Strengthendiaspora engagement across Europe.
Africa Team (Dr. Fatoyemi): Expand continentalcoalition building across African states. - Coalition Building for 2027:
The ADC and coalition stakeholders reaffirmed the commitment to building a broad-based political alliance to present a united front in 2027, prioritizing national interest, integrity, and performance-based leadership. - Immediate Next Step
A Contact Group will be summoned under ADC-DN leadership to draft and submit the Diaspora Input Document into the Coalition Contract with Nigerians.
Conclusion:
The convergence reaffirmed that the time is now for the Nigerian diaspora to convert remittances into resistance, policies into power, and engagement into empowerment. The coalition is determined to birth a new Nigeria that future generations will be proud of anchored on accountability, peace, innovation, and justice. The coalition paid tributes to Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu, National Chairman of African Democratic Congress for availing the Diaspora political participation via ADC and Hon. (Dr) Gbandi for the excellent mobilization of the Diaspora via ADC-DN for homeland political participation.
