The Federal Government’s recent wave of service hikes has once again confirmed a dangerous pattern of exploitation against Nigerians, particularly those in the Diaspora. From visa fees to NIN charges, and now the reckless increase in passport costs, Nigerians abroad are being treated not as citizens to be valued but as revenue streams to be drained.

Let it be clear: our money is good, but our representation is not. The Diaspora, which contributes billions of dollars annually in remittances, deserves efficient services and meaningful inclusion in governance. Instead, we are met with endless financial burdens and bureaucratic exploitation.

This latest passport fee increase is unjustifiable. It is not aligned with service improvement, nor does it reflect sensitivity to the sacrifices Nigerians in the Diaspora already make to sustain their families and communities at home. It is simply a continuation of legalized extortion.

Mr. Tunji Ojo and Mr. President must be reminded that governance is not about bankrupting citizens. When Mr. President campaigned and promised to widen the tax net, this is exactly what he meant, to squeeze Nigerians dry, at home and abroad, through hidden levies and incessant hikes, under the guise of reform.

The message is loud and clear: Nigerians must brace themselves to tighten their belts even further after 2027 under APC if this path is not reversed. But let me also state clearly there is only so much exploitation a people can take before they demand accountability.

The Diaspora deserves respect. Nigerians deserve fairness. And history will not forgive a government that mistakes exploitation for governance.
