The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has continued to record significant political gains across the country as prominent politicians and grassroots leaders defect from other platforms to strengthen its growing national presence. In Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, the party has received a major boost following the formal integration of members of the Labour Party (LP) and the Obidient movement into the ADC structure.
This development follows the widely anticipated declaration of His Excellency, Peter Obi, into the ADC, as well as sustained mobilization efforts by the ADC Diaspora and State Leader, Hon. Gbandi. In response to this call, LP members and Obidient supporters in Oshimili North have fully aligned their structures with the ADC to consolidate progressive politics at the grassroots.
Among the notable entrants is former military aide-de-camp, Mordi Anthony. Others include LP Chairperson Emeka Jinunoh, popularly known as Celenge; Chuchu Orizo (Gebby); Okolo Clement; Uche Abua; Uwaje Nnebuogor; and Ogbolu Alfred, among several others.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Faith Okolo Onyinye, a committed LP member and Obidient, described the moment as historic. She said the defection marked “a moment of joy, unity, and renewed hope” in Akwukwu-Igbo/Atuma Ward 1, as she and other progressive leaders formally joined the ADC to advance people-centered governance and inclusive development.
While welcoming the new members, Hon. Gbandi charged them to bring their positive ideals into the ADC fold, emphasizing the need to de-emphasize money politics and promote values rooted in service, integrity, and the African spirit of ubuntu. He also commended the Oshimili North ADC leadership for its effective grassroots mobilization and commitment to building a strong, people-driven political structure.
Political observers note that the growing wave of defections into the ADC across states signals a shifting political landscape, as citizens and leaders alike seek credible platforms for national renewal. With the integration of LP members and Obidients in Oshimili North, the ADC appears increasingly positioned as a rallying point for progressive forces ahead of future political contests.
